What does it mean to be accepted to the program?

* Most importantly, students must possess a curiosity for learning and be committed to the arts and humanities. The program is complex, demanding, and requires student driven input. Being "accepted" means that students accept responsibility for their own learning.

For whom is the program designed?

* The program is designed for juniors and seniors and will generally run from 10:00 to 3:00. This daily schedule allows students to take at least two classes at their home high school prior to the start of the program each day.

Is everyone who applies accepted?

* The Arts & Humanities Focus Program does accept sophomores that are academically prepared and possess the maturity required to thrive in an environment where motivation, self-directed learning and time-management skills are imperative to student success.

Is it easier to attend the program than to stay at my home high school?

* We will frequently ask Arts & Humanities students to attend shows and performances outside the normal school day/hours. In this way, the focus program adds to a student's responsibilities.

Will I know what is going on at my home high school?

* Announcements and information will be posted daily to keep students informed of various happenings at their home high schools. Students will maintain affiliation with their home high school and will graduate and participate in athletics and other student activities at the home high school. The main responsibility for this rests on the students.

Are there any required courses at the Arts & Humanities Focus Program?

* One course which is required for all students is the Humanities course. Each student earns 10 credit hours through the year-long Humanities course of study. The Humanities course is a complex and sophisticated improvisation upon themes and ideas and events and valuable experiences that ask for vigorous, sensitive and valuable responses.

Will I be able to take regular LPS courses?

* The Arts & Humanities Focus Program offers courses that meet the graduation requirements and elective courses that count toward graduation. Student transcripts will reflect the same course titles as currently assigned by LPS high schools. Major course objectives within each area of instruction, as approved by the Lincoln Board of Education, will guide teacher instruction and student expectations.
